Monthly Memories | January

First day of the year was spent at the beach with our three furry babies. It would probably have to be their favourite place in the whole world; sand, water and freedom! What more could a dog want!?

Our first wedding anniversary was on the 13th of January, and we spent it at Toronga Zoo in Sydney. It was a fun day and a great way to get out of the house. I also wanted to start a tradtion in which we take a photo, with last years anniversary photo and continually update it as the years go on! Haha. I think it will be a great way to look back on how we have changed :)

We really got into board games (and card games!) over the Christmas break and set out to finally get some of our own. Monopoly and Game of Life are on "long loan" from my Mum, but all the rest were scores that we found from a variety of op-shops!! Puzzles also consumed our days for awhile there, I have no photos but we were obsessed. We started and finished about 4 1000 piece puzzles! Great way to pass the time, whilst also doing something together. Also, for all those who have never played or heard of "Game of Life" I HIGHLY reccomend it, Mum bought it from the states a few years ago and it is by far my favourite!

One Year of Marriage.

Recently I noticed that I have not yet posted any photos or details of any kind for that matter, of our wedding. So what better way to mark our one year anniversary, then a a post remembering that special day.

On Sunday, the 13th of January, 2013 we became husband and wife. It was magical day and the happiness we felt was overwhelming. For those of you that know, I planned, organised and created 90% of the wedding - yep it was a total "DIY", but it was exactly what we wanted - so it was perfect. I’m so glad everything came together in the end. I had the most stressful, non-sleeping and fast paced week of my life leading up to it (I will never cook for 100+ people again...) and at 4pm it was all worth it.

The ceremony was exactly what we wanted, short and sweet. I couldn’t wait to get up the front and see Benn. We spent the whole ceremony whispering and laughing at each other, we realised we forgot to ask the celebrant how to stand up the front and we felt very awkward! I’m so glad I wrote my vows, I really loved what I said. And Benn’s words were beautiful too. I’m still yet to get them printed out on a canvas or something for our room. The wind was pretty crazy though and my veil barley stayed down! My maid of honour, Caity, tucked it into my dress so it stopped flying around! Ha.

The bridesmaids and flower girls looked incredible and I am so happy how the colouring, yellow, turned out. I wanted each person to wear what they felt comfortable in. The only rules was that the dress couldn't be long and had to be yellow - any shade. The groomsmen were also very handsome in their attire and I love how no one matched, yet they all did. Everyone wore what suited them and it couldn’t have been better.

It was so, SO, windy and my dress was so heavy being blown around in the wind. By the time the ceremony finished and we said our goodbyes/congrats to all the guests, it began to lightly sprinkle. I literally yelled and screamed at the bridal party to get down to the beach or they get no photos and I will be not be a happy bride (that’s literally what I said….hahaha), so we quickly went down to the beach. It wasn’t too bad but the rain did start to get heavier towards the end of the “photoshoot”, so we quickly finished up with the bridal party and got some photos of Benn and I out on the rocks. The rain was quite heavy by then and so were the waves…

The reception was fantastic and there was more than enough food. Benn forgot to tell the two of his friends that they were speaking, so when their names were called it was a lovely shock for them! Ha. I sang… which is something I have wanted to do at my wedding since I was a little girl, so even though I wasn’t 100% happy with my performance (am I ever!?), I’m so glad I did it.

I'm sure everyone says this, but it was like we “fell in love all over again” on the day. Being in that situation and being so happy, made us realise how in love we really were. Like, obviously we love each other (considering we got married..) but it’s really nice to look back at photos and see how happy we look and hearing comments from everyone stating that it looks like “the real deal”. It was such a happy day. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face, and neither could he. It was so nice to watch how happy he was, with me. How many times he told me how beautiful I looked (he is not one to do this), it was so heart-warming.

So here's to one year of marriage and many more to come!!

Sunday Seven.

One.
I finally got around to signing up to our local library and borrowing a book this week. I have been wanting a to read something that doesn't revolve around my Uni studies for so long I finally got my hands on one! I am reading "Lucky" By Alice Sebold, it is a very full on read, but a good one.

Two.
Unfortunately however, it I will also have to include some university readings into My time this week; as I need to complete 12 weeks worth by February 20th. I am choosing to complete one of my elective subjects before the new semester begins in a "condensed course"; which means 12 weeks worth of content squeezed into one week. But all readings must be completed before we start. And so it begins...

Three.
We were blessed this week with Benn lining up some work. He got a call on Friday for a weeks worth next week, with a possibility to keep him on if they like him. We were just worrying the other day about our finances so we couldn't be more grateful.

Four.
With Benn working tomorrow, we had to quickly change our plans for our wedding anniversary to yesterday. So we were a bit cheeky and celebrated two days earlier, but we have been looking forward to it for months! We caught the train down into Circular Quay in Sydney, then the ferry across the Harbour to the zoo. It was a beautiful (yet very hot) day and it secretly makes us wish we could work at the Zoo!

Five.
We spontaneously went camping Friday and Saturday night. We packed up the car after work on Friday and drove through the bush onto a secluded beach with some friends, and the same again on Saturday after Sydney. It was so nice to get away for a short time, 10 minutes from home. We were so impressed with the dogs staying by the campsite and not running off into the water or bushes. They were very well behaved!! We will be going on many more short trips in the future for sure.

Six.
I also borrowed a Jamie Oliver cook book from the library this week and I am in love! I haven't been very good with my "Creative Cooking" posts of late so I will try and remember to post up what we try from his book "Save with Jamie" this week.

Seven.
Okay... so I will admit it one last time. I STILL haven't done any yoga. 12 days into the new year. Lets not make it 13. I will make sure to get up with Benn when he goes to work this week and do some yoga!! I will not let myself down! Hopefully next week I can finally say that I did it haha. Stay tuned....
